It
isn't Milia, but Molluscum contagiosum :(
Sounds
ewww, right? You remember my post a few weeks ago, when my GP diagnosed my boils
as milia. Turns out they aren’t milia but Molluscum contagiosum – a viral skin
infection.
I
kept trying herbal home remedies to get rid of “milia”. But they persisted &
in fact got worse – they were inflamed, red, spreading & had gotten bigger.
I finally caved in and visited a dermatologist. He told me that the delay on my part plus the home remedies I was
trying had made my condition worse (the bumps spread) & caused a secondary
bacterial infection which was the reason for the aggressive inflammation on my
face. I am currently on antibiotics to clear up the bacteria, post which I shall
be going in for treatment for the viral infection. The antibiotic cream he has prescribed
for me, is very sticky & makes my skin itch, it has cleared up the redness
& the boils are now much smaller.
But
this episode has taught me the following:
1.
If
it is a boil & it doesn’t look like acne, go to a derm asap
2.
Don’t
touch the face too much; I most probably picked it up by touching something
contaminated & then touching my face.
3.
Herbal
remedies work when you know what you are dealing with.
The
other sad thing is that I may have to throw away some of my makeup / skin care.
Especially things like compacts & creams sold in jars, as there is a
probability that it too may have got infected. There is no way to tell what is
safe, so I might have to just dispose of things I was using in the last 2-3
months. The rest of the stuff (brushes, et al) will have to be disinfected with
spirit.
