The
origin of the word “hippie” derives from “hipster” which was first
coined by Harry Gibson in 1940 in a song titled “Harry the Hipster” (as
Harry referred to himself).
Hipsters were beatniks who had moved into
New York City’s Greenwich Village. Beatniks were followers of the Beat

Hippie dress, which they believed was part of the statement of who
you were, included brightly colored, ragged clothes, tie-dyed t-shirts,

Due to the wide fashion arena that accepts almost everything as a fashion statement, no matter how weird a piece of clothing may look at first, fashion can make it seem trendy and beautiful in the long run. As the hippie fashion threads caught on, people begun to look at them as strong fashion statements – eccentric and unique clothes that st

These fashion threads have now been modernized and are accepted by the fashion world. Bell-bottom pants are now a worldwide hit. What used to be trendy back in the past, and went out of the trend for a long time, is now the “it” pair of jeans nowadays. The Summer of Love in 1968 made paisley very popular in the twentieth century. It became identified with the psychedelic fad and was incorporated into art as well as clothing. Fender guitars produced a pink paisley Telecaster and John Lennon had a Rolls Royce that was custom painted in paisley.

By 1967, Bell Bottoms spread from the czars of high fashion towards the counter
culture hippie movement in the 1960’s along with granny glasses, tie-dye shirts
and love beads. They moved into the main stream, even getting a mention in the
song, Bell Bottom Blues, sung by Blues-Rock superstars Derek and the
Dominos.

Bell bottoms are pants that are designed to be wider downwards from below the
knees. Other styles for bell bottoms are flares, boot cut trousers and loon
pants. Bell bottoms became the reigning trouser style in the late 1960’s and
1970’s, affecting high fashion as well as popular hippie culture.
