3 Tips for the best father of the groom wedding speeches
1. Follow the standard scheme
Like any speech, the father of the groom wedding speech should contain three parts: the introduction, the body and the conclusion. I think the best begining of any speech is a quote. You can choose an interesting quote from the groom wedding speech examples on this site. Then, you should welcome all the wedding’s guests. Welcoming the bride in your family is a must, but you can do that in the body of the speech, if you wish. Presenting the bride’s family is also a good idea to use in your introduction.
In the body of the father of the groom speech, you can compliment the bride and congratulate your son for his choice. Funny events from your son’s childhood would also go very well in the body of the speech. Including some good jokes would add a little humour to your speech, which is so desirable, because the funny wedding speeches are always very appreciated. Another useful thing you should consider to include in your speech’s body would be a piece of advice for marriage.
Finally, in the last part of your speech, you could give some blessings to the newlywed couple. After that, according to the wedding speech etiquette, you should propose a toast to the bride and groom and, in the absence of a master of the ceremony, you must introduce the next speaker.
2. Keep it short, sincere and simple
The father of the groom wedding speeches must follow, like any other speech, the rule of shortness: your speech should last for maximum 5 minutes (3 minutes would be perfect). If you speak too much, you risk to bore your audience. In order to be sure that you will not overtake this limit, it’s advisable for you to read the speech loud a few times before the wedding.
Also, you must be sincere and express exactly what you feel. You should not exagerate or say things that are not true; for example, if you don’t appreciate the bride, you shouldn’t say that you admire her, because the difference between your words and your true feelings will be remarked and this will make a bad impression.
Like you will see in the father of the groom wedding speech examples in my site, the speech’s language must be simple, without unnecessary and annoying flourishes. When you write your speech, you should use your own words; you shouldn’t force yourself to use a brilliant vocabulary, because you will end up having a strange speech.
3. Use fine humour
Another piece of advice I would like to share with you is this one: a little good humour will make your speech memorable. You can achieve that by using some good jokes about married life or about your son. But, when you are joking, be careful not to hurt the guests’ feelings.
